We attended our first meeting last month and enjoyed the speaker, Thom Somes "The Pet Safety Guy™". We took his advice on the snout-to-tail assessment and to start using it on a regular basis. Two weeks ago we found a small lump on the back of the front leg of our Cavalier, Buddy. It turns out after some tests that the lump was a nerve sheath cancerous tumor. He just had surgery earlier this week at the Veterinary Specialist Hospital (who did an excellent job) to remove the tumor. It looks like we've caught this early enough that Buddy should recover. Thank you for having Thom at your meeting and the information provided. It will be a long recovery for Buddy due to the location of the tumor, but hopefully everything works out. We encourage everyone to use the snout-to-tail assessment regularly.

I do the Snout-to-Tail Wellness Assessment, which is explained in "Knowing Your Pet's Health: A Guide for Optimal Wellness from Snout-To-Tail", on my own pets as well as those I care for in my pet sitting business. Not long after learning the technique, I had a consultation with a potential client who has three cats. On our initial consultation, as we talked about my services, their needs, etc, I did the Snout-to-Tail Assessment on Turkey, their Maine Coon. As I ran my hands down Turkey's side I found a lump under her thick hair. When I explained to her people what I was doing and what I found, they were surprised. Even though they pet Turkey a lot (she demands it!) they never noticed the lump, which was about the size of a marble.

Turkey's people took her to the vet within a few days and the lump was removed. It was cancerous, but because it was caught early enough, it did not spread. Since then, her people have been vigilant about looking for lumps and have found a couple more, which have been benign. Had it not been for the Snout-to-Tail Assessment, it's uncertain what the outcome for Turkey may have been.

Thom Somes book, "Knowing Your Pet's Health: A Guide for Optimal Wellness from Snout-To-Tail" was a delight to read. It is a concise, clear, no-nonsense, easy to implement, FUN guide for pet owners to utilitize without needing a degree in rocket science! I've read quite a few first-aid guides for pet owners and while the information is generally good, I find they can be too technical and long for a pet owner to read through and then be able to digest what they read in order to use it. Thom not only puts in first aid & poison information but in addition he includes good, solid information that helps pet owners learn how to PREVENT illness and injuries with proper nutrition, exercise, training, and grooming for their pets. I encourage all pet owners to make this book part of their pet health library.

This little book carefully and clearly offers a solid foundation on the journey for a healthier, longer lived pet. Thomas Somes' information on nutrition and his Pet Tech Snout-To-Tail Work sheet are invaluable. This book should be added to every pet owner/animal lover's book shelf."
